Heritage decor for homes

An exhibition of unique artefacts is on at Vimonisha Exhibition Centre, Nungambakkam

The Heritage is organising an exhibition of artefacts and utilities created by its in-house artisans from today till May 8, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., at Vimonisha Exhibition Centre, Khader Nawaz Khan Road, Nungambakkam.

On show are centre tables, corner stands, water fountains, fancy mirrors, murals, masks, oil paintings and wall hangings. The speciality about the range of masks is that they are made of wood. Each piece is exclusive not just in terms of expression, but also in size and colour scheme. Egyptian and Indian folk motifs find expression in the terracotta and wooden mirror frames. Corner stands and centre tables with concealed lighting lend a rare touch to the expo. The base is wood, while the finish is terracotta. Since the terra-batik technique is used, the pieces have a 3D effect. The glass-topped centre tables have different designs for the base — from abstract to traditional. The wall hangings have miniature Ganeshas and Egyptian motifs in the frames.

As for the stone carvings, a number of pieces have been sourced from National award winner Suresh, from Orissa, and then given a different finish by the artisans at The Heritage. Call 98400 70026/ 98400 74044 for details.
