Letters to the Editor
The interview with John Lane, (`Beauty in our midst,' Literary Review, May 1), is good. Mr. Lane's views on his book Timeless Beauty reveal a deep conviction regarding the synthetic attitude of the Indian mind in all spheres of culture and learning. His statement that the worship of the Divine has stimulated the greatest beauty ever created by humankind is highly valuable. There is a close relationship between aesthetics and religion. The moral ruler of the universe, who is also the object of supreme love and devotion, is one with bhuvana sundara or supreme beauty.
