Four bus passengers injured

TIRUCHI : Four bus passengers were injured when the vehicle hit a lorry on the Tiruchi-Karur national highway at Elamanur in Tiruchi district on Wednesday.

The police here said the lorry was proceeding towards Tiruvarur from Coimbatore and the State Transport Corporation bus from Coimbatore to Tiruchi. The bus driver, Kamatchi, was arrested.

Held in murder case

The district police on Thursday arrested `Pattarai' Suresh involved in a murder case at Thiruverambur.

The police said `Pattarai' Suresh was the prime accused in the murder case. A case was also

registered against him under the Indian Explosive Substance Act for allegedly hurling a country bomb at a police inspector on the Pullambadi-Thirumanoor road recently.

Advocates boycott courts

Advocates in the city boycotted courts here on Wednesday, condemning the registration of a case against Sivasankaran, vice-president of the Tiruchi Bar Association and two others, in Jeeyapuram police station, the police here said.

Corpn. warning to tenants

The Tiruchi Corporation has warned of stern action against tenants, who have taken Corporation properties on lease, if they fail to remit their rental dues by May 10.

Rentals for all leased properties such as land, shops and petty shops should be paid before the 10th of every month. All defaulting leaseholders should pay their arrears and avoid eviction, the Corporation said in a press release.

Free computer training for disabled

The District Youth/Students Exnora has invited applications from eligible disabled persons for participating in the 20-day annual free computer training programme organised by it in association with the SSI Computer Centre. The training, commencing on May 30, would cover MS Office and Internet applications and would be conducted for two-hours every day. This is the fourth successive year that the training programme is being organised for the benefit of the disabled. Those interested could contact the SSI Computer Centre, behind Gajapriya Hotel, near Central Bus Stand, Tiruchi — 620001.

The Youth Exnora has also planned to conduct similar programmes for widows, destitute women, members of women's and youth associations, SHGS and voluntary organisations at a nominal fee this year. Those interested could contact the SSI Centre on May 8.

Mettur level

The level in the Mettur reservoir stood at 52.79 feet today. The inflow was 842 cusecs and the discharge 876 cusecs.
