Water woes of Nalgonda villages will end soon, says YSR

GUNDLAPAHAD (NALGONDA DT.): The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has said that the Government will take up mini lift projects to solve the water problem of villages along the Krishna.

Addressing a public meeting as part of Praja Patham at Gundlapahad in Neredcharla mandal here on Friday, he said: "My Government's main target is to immediately solve the water woes of the drought-hit Nalgonda district.'' The Government was determined to expedite the Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel works and also take up the tail-pond project construction downstream Nagarjunasagar forthwith, he reiterated. He further said the Government would treat the lifts on left canal on par with right canal.

Dr. Reddy announced an ex gratia of Rs.50,000, in addition to Rs.50,000 being given under the Apadbandhu scheme, for the family members of hailstorm victims in the district.

Earlier, the Chief Minister laid foundation stones to an electric sub-station to be constructed at a cost of Rs.68.897 lakhs and a bridge to be constructed on Vemulur vagu at a cost of Rs.211 lakhs.

A woman labourer stunned the officials during the Praja Patham by seriously demanding the Chief Minister to provide more opportunities for women. "We have the right to demand you for more work and it is your duty to serve us,'' she curtly said. Dr. Reddy said that the Government was there to lend a helping hand for poor. The Home Minister, K. Jana Reddy, the Miryalaguda MLA, J. Ranga Reddy, and the State Trading Corporation Chairman, Repala Srinivas, also spoke. The district police made elaborate security arrangements for the Chief Minister's visit.
