The CAG report on the sale of the Centaur Hotel suggests that the fixation of a reserve price, which favoured a single bidder, may not have been above board. However, the deal was done years ago and since then the hotel has been resold for a much higher price. This shows that post facto examination of facts and procedures is of little help. The UPA Government should devise ways to plug the loopholes. It should no longer be possible to sell off public assets for a pittance in the name of disinvestment.
