BELLARY: Bellary has topped the State in small savings as the Department of Small Savings here has exceeded the target in gross and net collections during 2004-05. As against the targets fixed by the Government of Rs. 165 crores (gross collection) and Rs. 55 crores (net collection), the department has collected Rs. 164.95 crores and Rs. 98.75 crores, respectively, according to S.R. Dundagi, Assistant Director of Small Savings.Following is the details of collections made under various saving accounts in the order of gross and net collection: savings bank Rs. 25.78 crores and Rs. 2.79 crores, time deposit Rs. 5.76 crores and Rs. 4.63 crores, recurring deposit Rs. 29.81 crores and Rs. 13.97 crores, monthly income scheme 7Rs. 56.29 crores and Rs. 49.78 crores, national savings scheme VIII issue Rs. 10.74 crores and Rs. 3.61 crores, Kisan Vikas Patra Rs. 23.08 crores and Rs. 16.75 crores, public provident fund Rs. 1.40 crores and Rs. 1.03 crores, SCSS Rs. 4.97 crores and Rs. 4.97 crores, and PPF (bank) Rs. 7.07 crores and Rs. 4.35 crores. During the previous year, 44,657 post office savings account were opened and commission to the tune of Rs. 16.57 lakhs were paid to 801 agents in the district, an official press release said.
