FIVB directive to Vizag organisers

Sports Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Board of Administration of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has directed the organisers to prepare one more air-conditioned indoor hall and all other facilities by June 15 for the World Youth volleyball championship, which is to be held in Vizag from August 6 to 14, Tournament Director, A. Ramana Rao told The Hindu on Monday.

Consequently, the Swarna Bharati Indoor Stadium of Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation is being renovated. "Other than this modification, there is nothing significant that the FIVB has advised after watching the power-point presentation regarding the preparations for the event," Rao said after his return from Lausanne. He was one of the two-member delegation from the State, which briefed the BoA of FIVB about the arrangements.

Mr. Rao also said the Asian-leg qualification rounds for the World championship for men, to be held in Japan next year, will be held in Chennai from June 24 to 26. The other legs, to be held in Kazakhstan and Australia, will spot the five qualifiers from Asia.

Ramana Rao, who is the director of development centre of FIVB in Chennai, has been nominated by the Asian Volleyball Confederation as the Control Committee member for the Asian Youth (under-18) volleyball championship in Teheran from May 13 to 20.
