Violence in Iraq

Three months have passed since the historic Iraqi election of January 30, but suicide attacks, car bomb assaults, and sectarian violence continue. According to media reports, Sunni insurgents are behind these attacks because Shias and Kurds, marginalised during Saddam Hussein's regime, dominate the present government. This must be addressed by the Government of Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaffari. Also of concern is the emergence of a number of power centres, some with the help of the Americans, in Iraq that could trigger a long-drawn civil war. It is time for the U.S. to withdraw completely from Iraq.
