Back SC panel visits TTP

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Supreme Court Monitoring Committee on Hazardous Wastes inspected on Thursday the factory of Travancore Titanium Products (TTP), which is facing closure for failing to adhere to pollution control norms.

Apart from the factory, the team also inspected the areas where the effluents are being discharged. According to company sources, the committee has taken the firm stance that an effluent treatment plant should be set up in a time-bound manner.

The deadline for closing the factory as per the notice issued by the Kerala Pollution Control Board on the committee's directions expired on April 26 this year.

Later, the committee extended the time till May 15 following the intervention of the Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy.
