Bellary to host cultural festival from tomorrow

Several artistes billed to perform

BELLARY: Bellary Samskrutika Janotsava, a two-day variety cultural festival of dance, drama and music, will start here on Saturday.

The cultural programme, organised by the Srujana Cultural Society and the All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO), will be held at the Gandhi Bhavan. It will be inaugurated by R. Nagesh, former Chairman of Karnataka Natak Academy

Sridevi Srinivas (Kuchipudi), Vijaya Kishore (light music), Narayankumar Hirekulachi Gadag (violin), Sridevi Ravi (Veena), Anant Deshpande, Dharwad (Da Ra Bendre one act play), progressive songs Rajalakshmi and her troupe and Sashidhar Narendra, Dharwad, Basaveshwara Yuva Kala Sangha (Kolata), Kadlur Madhusudhan (folk and Bhavageete), are among the artistes to give their performances on the inaugural day.

"Nrutya, Kavya, Kuncha", a blend of dance, poems and art, will be a special feature in which Ms. Sridevi Srinivas and Prasad will dance, Rajalakshmi Rao, Suma Chakrapani and M. Lakshmi will render songs while R.L. Jadhav, Negalurmath and U. Ramesh will draw paintings.

Jayaprakash Gupta, Chartered Accountant and advisor, Srujana Cultural Society, K. Somashekar, district secretary of SUCI, A. Ramanjinappa, State Secretary of AIDYO, and M. Basavaraj, district secretary, are among the chief guests at the valedictory function to be held on Sunday.

S.K.Jeelani Basha (Bharatanatyam), Doddabasava Gawai (Hindustani vocal), Kogli Kotresh (cine actor and mimicry artiste), Mohan Kalburgi and Jagannath Horapet (Violin-Harmonium jugalbandi), Rekha and troupe (light music), Vijayalakshmi, Sridevi Srinivas and Prasad (dance), "Naavu Janasamanyaru", a play by Srujana Cultural Society, are among the programmes to be held on that day.
