WARANGAL: Expressing happiness over the successful implementation of Praja Patham programme, the Endowments Minister and in charge of the district, M. Satyanarayana Rao, on Thursday said when the programme was proposed by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, many within the Cabinet had raised objections. "Several of my colleagues told the Chief Minister not to go ahead with the programme reasoning that extremism was on the rise and people might not receive public representatives well in view of severe heat wave conditions,'' he said thanking the Chief Minister for taking the bold decision to go to people once again. He was addressing the MLAs and officials at a review meeting on the programme at the district collectorate here. Mr. Satyanarayana Rao said like many other public representatives, he too feared possible naxal violence during Praja Patham. But, he said he had made up his mind to face the consequences. "I am once again appealing to naxals to give up arms. The bullet can never bring peace or democracy as it did nowhere in the world. Everybody knows what has happened to Hitler,'' he pointed out.
People happy
The Minister said going by the reports from officials, the people at large were happy with the programme and the way it was implemented. In many villages, the public representatives witnessed the progress of ongoing food for work scheme and the programme enabled them move among the public who were burdened with plethora of problems. "The wish of the Chief Minister was that MLAs and Ministers should go to the people when they have problems and the programme served the purpose,'' Mr. Satyanarayana Rao said.The MLAs - Podem Veeraiah, M. Satyanarayana Reddy, K. Prathap Reddy, K Laxma Reddy, B. Sara Rani, K. Surekha, B. Saraiah and D. Srinivasa Rao -- the Zilla Parishad Chairman, A. Baswa Reddy, and others were present.
