BANGALORE: The concept of a city on the move seems to be rubbing off on students. College students take up temporary jobs during vacation. The money earned to may be spent on films, discos, pubs and shopping but nobody is complaining. In a city with booming retail business and BPO firms, part-time jobs are there for the asking. Priya, a student of business management, started working in a consultancy immediately after her examinations. "I find this more productive than sitting at home and watching television or just chatting. Besides, I find it satisfying because in a way I help people find the jobs that they are looking for," she says. Apart from the consultancy and BPO firms, a number of fast food joints such as Dominoes and Cafe Coffee Day employ students on a temporary basis. The hotel industry is teeming with students who help in the reception and guest relations. Ashok, working in a leading hotel, says: "Any student with good communication skills can easily find a job here." Salaries vary from around Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 10,000.
