State loans open for subscription from May 17

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh State Development Loan (2015) will open for subscription on May 17. The loans, bearing interest of 7.77 per cent per annum, will be repaid at par on May 19, 2015.

According to a press release issued here on Friday, the loan would be sold through the Reserve Bank of India, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Interest would be paid half-yearly on November 19 and May 19 every year. The tenure of the loan would commence on May 19, said P. Ramakanth Reddy, Principal Secretary (Finance) to Government.__Special Correspondent

Ailing Boyi Bheemanna gets grant

HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has announced a monthly financial assistance of Rs. 5,000 to Padmabhushan awardee and poet, Boyi Bheemanna, to appoint an assistant to help in his writing poetry.

In a press note issued here on Friday, the Chief Minister said Dr. Bheemanna had written a letter to him recently expressing his desire to continue writing poems. Due to his advanced age and inability to write due to Parkinson's disease, he sought an assistant, who would help in writing poetry, he added.__ Staff Reporter

Man hacked to death in bus

KURNOOL: A man identified as Yesanna, 25, was hacked to death in a passenger bus near Allagadda in Kurnool district on Friday. According to reports, the victim, hailing from Mittapalli, was attacked by three persons with sickles in the running bus on the outskirts of Allagadda town. The passengers ran away on seeing the shocking incident.Sexual jealousy was said to be the cause of the murder. The police were searching for the accused. __Staff Reporter

Farmer ends life

CUDDAPAH: A farmer, Kothapalle Bali Reddy, 36, committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Rajupalem village in Kalasapadu mandal on Thursday night. He was said to be neck deep in debts and depressed by the failing health of his wife, Lakshmi Devi, 28, who is suffering from blood cancer. Bali Reddy, belonging to Lingareddipalle village in the mandal, resorted to the extreme step at Rajupalem, his in-laws' place, and died on way to hospital at Porumamilla, according to the police. __Staff Reporter

Woman dies in suicide pact

CUDDAPAH: A woman died and her daughter is battling for life in a suicide pact on Yerraguntla bypass road in Proddatur town on Thursday.

Venkatalakshmamma, 37, consumed poisonous granules after administering them to her daughter, Prasanna, 15. She informed her sister Nagalakshmi, residing at Easwar Reddy Nagar in Proddatur mandal, according to the police. __Staff Reporter

State sets record in cataract surgeries

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh has set a record by performing 5.5 lakh cataract surgeries and distributing 71,996 spectacles for schoolchildren and poor under the National Programme for Control of Blindness (NPCB). The Director of NPCB said in a press release here on Friday that under the programme, 41 ophthalmic assistants were given refresher training. Two killed as lorry overturns

KURNOOL: Two persons died and four others were injured when a mini-lorry overturned at Kaditota near Adoni in Kurnool district in the early hours of Friday. According to reports, the lorry was coming with a load of cotton bales to Adoni when the mishap occurred. The deceased were identified as Ch. Plea on location of fair price shops

KURNOOL: Members at the Food Advisory Committee (FAC) have urged the Joint Collector, Ramsankar Naik, on Friday to relocate fair price (FP) shops in the locations where the ration cards were concentrated.
