`Telugu Desam will give fitting reply to Congress at Mahanadu'

NEW DELHI: The Telugu Desam Party will give a fitting reply to the Congress Government in Andhra Pradesh at its three-day Mahanadu beginning May 28 in Hyderabad. It is also expected to take a fresh look at the national political scenario through its political resolution.

The Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party leader, Yerrannaidu, on Sunday expressed shock and disappointment at the `huge waste of public money' by the Rajasekhara Reddy Government which celebrated the completion of one-year in office on Saturday.

"Instead of listing any achievements or talking about what it intends to do over the next four years, the occasion was used by the Chief Minister to attack the TDP president, N. Chandrababu Naidu," Mr. Yerrannaidu said.

The TDP leader charged that Dr. Reddy had simply given new names to the TDP programmes -- the Janmabhoomi of the TDP was renamed Rajiv palle baata and Rajiv nagara baata programmes and the poverty eradication scheme of the previous Government was rechristened Indira Kranti. "More than 80 per cent of people were satisfied with the Janmabhoomi programme, while not more than 18 per cent of people of the State appreciate a similar programme of the YSR Government," he said.

Ryots' suicide

If the TDP was blamed for farmers' suicide in the State, the YSR Government had done nothing to stop these and even one year later it was blaming the TDP, he said. Normally on the occasion of one-year in office the Government should talk about its own achievements and the election promises it had been able to keep. Instead, the Chief Minister attacked the TDP regime and continued to blame the previous Government for the woes of people. "The Chief Minister announced a compensation of Rs. 1.5 lakhs to the next of kin of farmers who had committed suicide, but only a few of the 3000 affected families had received the benefit.
