Mr Reddy sought a strategy for the constitution of a second Bachawat award tribunal on Krishna waters

KARIMNAGAR: The Bharatiya Janata Party State president, N Indrasena Reddy, has asked the Government to convene an all-party meeting to discuss and take appropriate measures to stop the illegal construction of projects on the Krishna and Godavari by the neighbouring States of Karnataka and Maharashtra and measures to protect the interests of the State.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr Indrasena Reddy alleged that the Karnakata Government had launched a campaign against Andhra Pradesh over the construction of projects on the Krishna by representing the matter to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh. He asked the Government to take measures to counter the negative campaign by Karnataka.

Charge against Karnataka

He accused Karnataka of constructing illegal projects on the Krishna and launching propaganda against Andhra Pradesh. He asked the Government to chalk out a strategy for the constitution of the second Bachawat award tribunal on Krishna waters by seeking the opinion of experts.

With regard to the illegal projects on the Godavari in neighbouring Maharashtra, he asked the Government to react immediately and prevail upon the Centre to stop the illegal construction and protect the interests of Telangana's farmers.

Finding fault with the police for threatening the Penukonda firing victims in hospital, he alleged that the Anantapur police had videographed and deployed shadow teams during the visit of former Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, to Penukonda on Saturday. Terming the videographing of the former Chief Minister's visit as `undemocratic,' he asked the Government to clarify why they had videographed the visit of Mr Chandrababu Naidu to Penukonda.

Penukonda bypoll

To a query, he said that the BJP would not field its candidate in the Penukonda Assembly by-election.
