Gutsy girl catches fleeing thief

Lalita (18), daughter of a temple priest, P.V.S. Sharma, on Monday chased a thief who was fleeing after stealing a gold chain from the temple at Chikkadpally. The offender pushed aside Sharma, entered the sanctum sanctorum, pulled the chain and started running even as the priest raised an alarm. Lalita ran after the thief for a few metres and finally caught him with help of passers-by, the Chikkadpally police said. During interrogation, the police learnt that the person caught by the girl was Mohan Kumar of Rasoolpura.

Bus knocks down young recruit

A 23-year-old fresh MBA recruit was killed when an RTC bus ran over him after hitting the bike he was riding from behind at Lalaguda railway bridge on Tuesday morning. Even as he fell on the road, the bus sped past over his head killing him on the spot, the Osmania University police said. The victim's father, Venkata Ramaiah, is working as paid secretary in a local cooperative credit society.

Infant missing

A 15-month-old boy, Shivalingam, went missing on Monday at Sitla Matha temple near Puranapool.

The boy's mother Ramulamma of Vaddera Basthi in Domalguda was a labourer and went for work at Dhoolpet nala. During lunch break; she went to the temple along with her son. After leaving Shivalingam at the corridor, she went to wash her hands. She returned within five minutes, but did not find the boy there, the Shahinayatgunj police said.

Woman succumbs to burns

A housewife, Vijayalaxmi, 20, who was allegedly set afire by her husband, Chandrashekhar Hasnappa, five days ago, succumbed to burns after Monday midnight while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
