ONGOLE: The All India Student Federation has opposed the semester system being proposed at the degree level in all universities in the State from the next academic year. The AISF State assistant secretary, Muralidhar, in a statement here on Wednesday, expressed fear that it would lead to corporatisation of education and lead to closure of Government colleges, depriving poor students of educational opportunities. He asked the Government not to experiment with higher education and instead, take steps to improve facilities and standards in the existing colleges. He pointed out that Intermediate education had been vitiated due to unhealthy competition and corporatisation. The Government was now planning to extend this to degree colleges by introducing the semester system.
