Top naxal surrenders

KAKINADA: A top naxalite, Kadabala Anand alias Vikram alias Ajay alias Prathap (25), secretary of the Konalova area committee of the CPI (Maoist) East Division, operating on the Andhra-Orissa border, surrendered before the East Godavari SP, V. Naveen Chand, here on Wednesday.

Intensive counselling by the police through his mother, coupled with his deteriorating health and the surrender of his wife had made Vikram change his mind.

Mr. Naveen Chand said Vikram was involved in nine cases, including the landmine blast attack of 2001 at Jajigeddavagu in which four policemen, were killed. He was also involved in the attack on the Dharakonda armed outpost in Visakhapatnam district, in which seven policemen were killed.

Staff Reporter in Karimnagar adds: Another naxalite, Chakkapalli Lingam alias Gangadhar alias Ravuji (49), who worked in Karimnagar, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh regions, surrendered in front of the Metpally police on Wednesday.
