GLOBAL consulting, technology and outsourcing provider Capgemini, launched its third facility in Mumbai on Thursday.

The new facility will provide technology services and outsourcing services, which includes application and infrastructure management, to the company's global clients.

With this facility its India offshore capacity is over 3,000 seats, including a centre in Bangalore that was opened last October. The company is hiring employees at a rate of 100-150 per month.

Capgemini India delivers services to customers in North America, the UK, Continental Europe and Asia-Pacific. TXU, Merrill Lynch, Marks and Spencer and HPCL are among the clients served from here.

"Our primary commitment has always been to deliver service to our clients with the most ideal combination of quality, cost and delivery options through a network of worldwide centres," said Mr Baru Rao, CEO, Capgemini India.

Capgemini went through a lot of restructuring in the last few years, the most recent being for its US operations. However, the company is very bearish on its India operations. "There is no contradiction between growing in India and stabilising headcount in Europe," said Mr Nicholas Dufourcq, CFO, Capgemini Group.

"India is core to Capgemini Group strategy. We have seen overwhelming growth from this region in the recent year and foresee continued growth and expansion in the coming quarters, delivered through our India operations," said Mr Dufourcq.

The company employs about 60,000 people worldwide and reported 2004 global revenues of 6.3 billion euros ($7.94 billion).
