Back Textile body nod for NTC land buy proposal Our Bureau
Coimbatore , May 25 THE board of governors of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Textile Management (SVPITM), an autonomous body, promoted by the Ministry of Textiles, in its meeting held on May 21, has approved the proposal to purchase 6.21 acres of the land owned by National Textile Corporation (Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry unit) situated at Peelamedu in Coimbatore at a cost of Rs 8 crore. The land is meant for the development of infrastructure of the institute. According to a press release from the Registrar, Mr P. Saravanan, the board has also cleared the proposal to build an academic block with modern facilities at a cost of Rs 4 crore. Besides, the board had also decided to start a one-year full time post-graduate diploma course in apparel management and expand library facilities. A proposal to reorganise the activities of the Nodal Centre for Upgradation of Textile Education (NCUTE) and a scheme to upgrade the textile technology curricula was also cleared by the board, presided over by Mr R. Poornalingam, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles, who is also the ex-officio Chairman of the board. The other members at the meeting included Mr J.K. Sharm, Joint Secretary (Textiles), and Mr A. Sakthivel, President of the Tirupur Exporters Association, Tirupur.
