New president of Ramakrishna order

KOLKATA: Swami Gahananandaji Maharaj was elected president of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission on Wednesday, mission sources said.

His election as the 14th president of the order came at a meeting of Board of Trustees of the Math and the Governing Body of the mission here.

Before being elected, Swami Gahananandaji was one of the vice-presidents of the Math and Mission since April 14, 1992.

Born in the village of Paharpur in Sylhet district now in Bangladesh on October 1916, Swami Gahananandaji Maharaj joined the Ramakrishna Order at its centre in Bhubaneswar in January 1939 at the age of 22. — UNI
