Thefts at KSRTC bus station

Sir, — Film songs and advertisements are beamed through the closed circuit television sets installed on all platforms at the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus station in Bangalore. This distracts the attention of the passengers. Taking advantage of this situation, thieves are operating at the bus station. The KSRTC should stop telecasting programmes that may distract the passengers and use the medium only to broadcast important messages.

Extend bus service

Sir, — Gurudatta Layout in Banashankari Third Stage is developing fast. However, there is no bus service to this area. One has to go by an autorickshaw to Hoskerehalli Cross, which is one km away, to reach the nearest bus stop. Autorickshaws are not available during peak hours. I urge the authorities concerned to extend bus service up to Dattatreya Temple in the area.

Poster menace

Sir, — The walls in the city have become an eye sore, as they are plastered with posters, advertisements, etc. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) has not taken any action against those defacing the walls, even though the BMP council, in one of its recent meetings, authorised the Commissioner to take action. The BMP could fix hoardings in selected locations for film and other posters. The walls should bear "Stick no bills" message in English and Kannada. The BMP should also levy huge penalties against those defacing the walls.

Storm water drain

Sir, — For more than 10 years, a storm water drain opposite Jayanagar Telephone Exchange has been in a terrible condition, as sewage is let into it. Plastic bottles, rags, and packing materials are dumped into the drain, resulting in the formation of silt. The smell and mosquito menace has made life impossible for families living in the surrounding areas. Representation in person and in writing made to the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has not yielded any result. The residents have now decided to defer payment of property tax until the problem is solved.
