DJB chief's assurance to High Court

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Jal Board chief, Rakesh Mohan, on Monday personally appeared before the Delhi High Court and assured that the work on the sewage lines in Rajouri Garden in West Delhi will be completed within a fortnight. Taking a serious note of the inordinate delay in completion of the work despite the undertaking filed by the competent authority before the court, a division bench of Chief Justice B C Patel and Justice S K Kaul today directed the Board to file a status report by June 17.

After hearing the arguments, the bench directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to complete the remaining work immediately to give relief to the residents of the area. The Board, through its counsel, informed the court that 10,500 sewer lines were already laid and sought time till June 15 to complete the remaining work. Earlier, the court had summoned the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Board to explain why an earlier order of the single bench was allegedly not complied with.

``If the work was done as per the order, the board was directed to file an affidavit for such compliance,'' the bench said. -UNI
