THE Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has pointed out that there has been no progress in the establishment of the AP Technology Mission. He urged officials to speed up the process.

The State Planning Board should also formulate a comprehensive State development plan up to March 2009, the Chief Minister said on Wednesday.

Addressing a meeting of the board, Dr Reddy asked the officials to sustain and consolidate the schemes and initiatives taken up during 2004-05, instead of setting new targets, an official release said. He wanted the officials to reorient the policies and programmes to be village-centric with focus on improving the rural economy.

He said the government was determined to construct 40 lakh houses in four years for all homeless families under `Rajiv Gruhakalpa' scheme.

After shifting to his new official residence `Godavari' at Begumpet here, Dr Reddy told reporters that the response to the housing programme was very encouraging and with the successful completion of 6.54 lakh houses during last year, the government was now hastening construction on the remaining 34 lakh-odd houses.
