ELURU: The process of land acquisition for execution of the Polavaram Right Canal is hit by fund crunch, according to Danakishore, Special Deputy Collector, Land Acquisition, Polavaram Right Canal. Speaking at an official review meeting here on Thursday, he said the delay in sanction of funds by the Irrigation Department for land acquisition resulted in a slowdown of the process. M. Venkateswara Rao, Chief Engineer, Indira Sagar, however, informed that the Irrigation Department would deposit funds with the Land Acquisition authorities in a couple of days. Mr. Danakishore favoured a joint survey involving the contractors entrusted with the canal works and revenue, irrigation and land acquisition personnel to clear apprehensions among farmers on fixation of canal alignment and the extent of lands to be lost due to the canal formation. Referring to the complaints that the contractors and the Irrigation personnel were creating confusion among farmers on land acquisition rates, he made it clear that no agency other than the Land Acquisition had any say in this regard. The Collector, Lav Agarwal, called for a greater coordination among the agencies involved in execution of the right canal in order to avoid confusion.
