Admission to
PGDCA course
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Applications have been invited for admission to the Post-Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) course conducted by the LBS Centre for Science and Technology and the Department of Technical Education. The course is to be conducted at the units of the LBS Centre in different districts. Classes are scheduled to begin on August 3. Application forms will be issued from the units from June 7. Health Minister K.K. Ramachandran has reprimanded officials of his department for "not showing social commitment." Addressing a meeting of department officials here, the Minister said that the department was not rising to the expectations of the people. Strong action would be taken against those shirking duty. 12,000 litres of
spirit seized
PALAKKAD:
The Khasaba police on Tuesday seized a tanker lorry with 12,000 litres of spirit and arrested the driver and cleaner. The tanker carrying smuggled spirit had passed the Walayar check-post. The police seized the vehicle on information from check post-officials. The vehicle was stopped on the National Highway and the driver and the cleaner were taken into custody. They told the police that the spirit brought from Tamil Nadu was bound for Cherthala. Staff Reporter
Entrance test
for MCA course
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Admit cards have been sent to candidates appearing for the entrance test for admission to the MCA course. The test is to be conducted in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kozhikode, on June 11, according to the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations. Those who do not receive the admit card or the rejection memo by June 9 should report to the Liaison Officer concerned at the respective centre and obtain identification certificate in lieu of the former. NAAC reaccreditation to college
PATHANAMTHITTA:
The Mar Thoma College in Thiruvalla has been reassessed and reaccredited as A-Grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Committee (NAAC) appointed by the University Grants Commission. In a statement today, Principal Abraham George said the college became the first accredited one in the State in 1998. And now, the reaccreditation too came along with 19 other colleges in the country. The Mar Ivanios College, Thiruvananthapuram and the Union Christian College, Aluva, are the other two colleges which have been reaccredited along with the Mar Thoma College. Staff Reporter
Plea to revise wage
KOLLAM:
The Kerala NGO Association has urged the Government to declare a wage revision with retrospective effect from March 2002. The association wanted the Government to issue the pending eight per cent interim relief. The demands were made a meeting of the district executive committee of the association held here on Tuesday. Temple festival
KOLLAM:
The `kumbhabhishekam' festival of the Kollam Sri Uma Maheshwara Swamy Temple will be held on June 9 and 10. In connection with this year's festival, the temple authorities will organise a pongala ritual of the temple. The ritual will take place at 9 a.m. on Thursday. The temple trustee Swaminathan S. Babu said the ritual is being organised following a demand from devotees.
District meet to be held
KOTTAYAM:
The first district conference of National Congress (Indira) will be held on Wednesday, district president K.K. Abraham has said. According to him, over 8,000 delegates representing the 80 mandalam committees will participate in the conference which will be inaugurated by K. Muraleedharan.
