A professional honour


Rotary International has presented the professional excellence award to Prof. R. Sethuraman, Vice-Chancellor, Shanmugha Arts Science Technology and Research Academy (SASTRA) for his yeoman contribution to society in general and to higher education in particular at a function held recently at Kumbakonam.

The citation said that Sethuraman was instrumental in making SASTRA occupy an enviable position in the educational field of the country.

The university under the leadership of Sethuraman earned a number of credits like recognition as post-graduate educational institution, Centre for Scientific Industrial Research, deemed university status, Centre of Advanced Computing, etc.

On the social front, the citation said that Mr. Sethuraman contributed magnanimously to victims of tsunami, Kumbakonam school fire tragedy, Gujarath earthquake and Orissa flood.

He has been offering scholarships and free education to deserving students irrespective of their background.

S. Vaidyasubramanian, Dean-planning and development, received the award on behalf of Mr. Sethuraman.

The Mount Zion College of Engineering and Technology in Pudukottai district will start its second phase of campus interviews on June 12.

The first stage of this campus interview would be a written aptitude test, which would be held on June 12.

The tests would be conducted in three batches.

Students of the 2001-05 and 2002-06 batches would be eligible to attend the campus interviews, according to a release from the college.

Students who clear the aptitude test would then be invited to attend the technical and H.R. interviews at a later date.

The companies which would be covered in this phase of campus recruitment are Cognizant Technology Solutions Ltd, i-Flex Solutions, Kshema Technologies Ltd, Laser Soft Limited, L&T Infotech Ltd, Mahindra British Telecom Ltd, Mastek Ltd, Nest Information Technologies Pvt Ltd, Polaris Software Solutions Ltd, Satyam Computer Services Ltd, Trilogy Systems, Zensar Technologies and Wipro Technologies Ltd.

The release further said the college had so far placed 43 per cent of its first batch of final year students through campus interviews.
