ANANTAPUR: Only seven mandals in the district have received crop insurance claims for about Rs. 72.24 lakhs for the crop loss suffered during the 2004 kharif season. The remaining 56 mandals did not get any crop insurance benefit as the crop yield estimated with the help of crop cutting experiments in these mandals was higher than the threshold yield fixed by the Agriculture Insurance Company. According to the official sources, 6,021 farmers were benefitted from the crop insurance claims in Tadimarri, Gandlapenta, Nambulapulakunta, Agali, Gudibanda, Rolla and Mudigubba. The insurance benefit was given to an extent of 8,828.23 hectares of land. Gandlapenta mandal received a maximum of 21.82 per cent insurance claim followed by Rolla (20), Agali (19.68), Tadimarri (17.82), Nambulapulakunta (17.21), Gudibanda (3.83) and Mudigubba (3.17). As is the practice, the insurance amount will be adjusted to the loans taken by farmers concerned last year.
