THE National Dairy Development Board Chairperson, Dr Amrita Patel, has been made a member of a high-powered committee on Indian cooperative movement.

Dr Patel will assist in preparing a roadmap recommending the steps to be taken to meet the challenge being faced by the movement in the changing social and economic environment in India, an NDDB release said here.

The committee would review the achievements of the last 100 years of the cooperative movement and has been constituted by the conference of State Cooperative Ministers.

Commenting on her role in the committee, Dr Patel said, "To expand their markets, like their competitors, co-operatives need autonomy, sound governance and competent professionals. Through this committee, we hope to be able to outline a detailed roadmap identifying socio-economic challenges and ensuing an appropriate policy and legislative framework with a view to enable the democratic, autonomous and professional functioning of cooperatives."
