KINGFISHER Airlines on Wednesday placed orders with European aircraft manufacturer Airbus for 15 planes, including five of the world's largest A380 aircraft and as many A350s and A330s.

With the signing of the deal, which according to agency reports is estimated at $3 billion, at the ongoing Paris air show, Kingfisher Airlines became the first Indian carrier, as well as the first low-fare airline to place an order for A380.

The delivery is expected to begin in 2010.

According to a Kingfisher release, the airline will use its five A330s (deliveries are due to begin in 2007) on regional routes, including flights to Europe, while the A350 and A380 will be for longer non-stop flights to places such as the US.

"India is one of the world's fastest growing markets, and these new Airbus aircraft, with their unmatched passenger appeal, economy and commonality, will give us the lead in competing for their business," said Dr Vijay Mallya, Chairman of the UB group, the parent company of Kingfisher Airlines.
