Heat stroke toll 89

PATNA: With four more deaths reported during the past 24 hours the toll due to heat stroke rose to 89 in Bihar.

Two deaths were reported from Patepur in Vaishali district and one each from Katna village and Bijikhokha village in Banka district during the past 24 hours.

Earlier, 16 people including three prisoners in Aurangabad divisional jail died due to heat stroke in Aurangabad followed by 12 deaths in Gaya, nine in Nawada, eight in Samastipur, seven each in Munger and Buxar, six in Vaishali, five in Kaimur, four in Rohtas, three each in West Champaran, Saharsa and Kishanganj and two in Nalanda districts. The weatherman has predicted rise in temperature which was hovering around 45 degree celsius for the past ten days. Severe power cuts and electricity crisis has compounded the problems.

Meanwhile, the administration had announced closure of all government and private schools till June 20 in view of the heat wave conditions.
