New Delhi , June 22 STORAGE giant Seagate on Wednesday announced the launch of ten new hard disc drives aimed at consumer electronics, enterprise, desktop and mobile computing markets. "Our storage innovations are driving the infusion of exciting new capabilities into applications of all kinds, from the home and the office to the road and beyond," said Mr Sharad Srivastava, Country Manager for Seagate in India, said at a conference here. The US-based storage giant had a 79 per cent share of the Indian hard disk drive market for the quarter ended March 2005, compared to 72.4 per cent for the quarter ended September 2004. However, the company does not plan to set up any manufacturing or development facility in India. "We are increasing our market share in the country. But as of now, we do not have any plans to manufacture hard disks or set up an R&D facility in India," he said. Seagate also introduced innovations for the computing market, including 2.5-inch drives with perpendicular recording, high capacity portable hard drives and drives with full disc encryption for robust protection of users' personal data. "This also allows the drives to store more data than traditional recording systems," he said. Among the products unveiled are a one-inch hard drive that can hold eight gigabytes of data and a 500-gigabyte capacity drive designed for digital video recording and home entertainment systems.
