Hyderabad , June 29

SILK Mark, a label certifying that the product is made up of quality silk material protects the interests of the consumers, was formally launched here by the Silk Mark Organisation of India (SMOI).

SMOI, sponsored by the Central Silk Board of the Union Ministry of Textiles had launched the scheme recently to promote quality and ensure that silk products like sarees, dress materials, made ups, furnishing materials that reach the consumers could carry the `Silk Mark' label.

The Chairman of the SMOI, Mr H. Basker, told presspersons that on the export front the Silk Mark will provide a logo for brand promotion and instil confidence in the importers of Indian silk.

He said more than 200 members of which 170 are authorised users have joined SMOI. About seven lakh labelled silk products are in the market.
