New Delhi , June 29 PEOPLE'S Action for Employment Guarantee, in a conference organised here on Tuesday, demanded immediate adoption of the Employment Guarantee Act. At the conference, Ms Aruna Roy, Secretary, Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan, said the main objective of the forum is to "make the UPA Government fulfil its promise made in the Common Minimum Programme and immediately enact a rural Employment Guarantee Act." Rozgar Adhikar Yatra, a right to work campaign, which began on May 13, will return to Delhi on June 29 after visiting 50 districts in the country. After its arrival, a Jan Manch is to be organised that will also bring together leaders from various political parties to present their views on the National Rural Employment Guarantee Bill. The Bill was presented to the Parliament on December 21, 2004 and has been with the Standing Committee since. At the conference, Mr Kamal Mitra Chenoy, Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University, said the employment programme should be "universal, with employment provision for every adult and not just one person per family."
