GOVERNMENT offices have been given more time for electronic filing of annual return for tax deducted at source for the financial year 2004-05. Such offices (government deductors) can now file their e-TDS returns by August 31.

An order issued by the Central Board of Direct Taxes also said that the due date for filing of annual return of TDS for financial year 2004-05 by assessees/deductors other than the offices of government would remain as June 30.

The CBDT had also recently extended the due date for the filing of quarterly statements of TDS and tax collection at source for the first quarter of the financial year 2005-06 to July 31.

This extension of due date has been allowed only in respect of those statements that are to be filed in the electronic format.
