Expedite work on college building, Land Army told

BELGAUM: The Co-Chairman of the 15-member Administrative Committee for New Medical Colleges and the district in-charge Minister, Prakash B. Hukkeri, has asked the Land Army Corporation to expedite the renovation and construction work of the Belgaum Institute of Medical Sciences to be started from this year.

He was reviewing the progress of work here on Saturday. D.V. Guruprasad, Secretary, Medical Education, was present.

The meeting decided to appoint teaching and non-teaching staff and also buy equipment and material for laboratories and administrative departments and books for the library.

The Land Army Corporation, which was awarded the Rs. 15-crore tender for construction of new building for the college, has been asked to submit a monthly progress report to the district administration. Any delay would invite disciplinary action, Mr. Hukkeri said.

Mr. Guruprasad said there were no hurdles in starting the medical college in the city but the construction work should be expedited.

He said applications for the post of lecturers had been received and selections will be made soon.

A chief administrative officer for the college will be appointed shortly.

He also disclosed that the services of staff of the Health and Family Planning Department would be utilised for the college. The Government has decided in this regard, he added.

Work to be monitored

The Deputy Commissioner, Shalini Rajneesh, said the work would be monitored regularly.

The administrative committee would meet on the first Saturday of every month to review the progress of work, she added.
