Hat-trick for Tarundeep

LUCKNOW: Army man Tarundeep Rai scored a golden hat-trick by winning the recurve crown of the fourth Subhash Gupta Memorial National archery ranking tournament, which concluded here on Sunday. He scored 143.5 points followed 8.5 points behind by Jayanat.

19-year-old Rahul Banerjee from Jharkhand claimed bronze with 109 points.

Dola Banerjee clinched the women's recurve gold, defeating Chekrovolu Swuro of Nagaland by three points.

The Jharkhand lad's bronze got a golden gloss, with his sister Dola , winning the women's recurve crown. The 25-year-old individual winner of the Golden Arrow Grand Prix at Antalaya (Turkey) pipped Chekrovolu Swuro of Nagaland (59 points) by three points. Reena Kumari of Jharkahnd won the bronze at 57 points.

Interestingly, all the three women medallists were part of the Indian foursome that narrowly missed a bronze in the recurve division of the Madrid championship.

In the compound division however, it was a field day for archers from ITBP and Jharkhand in men and women section respectively.

In the compound division, Indo-Tibetan Border Police' (ITBP) Shiv Nath emerged victorious in the men's section, while Bansaralin Dhar of Jharkhand claimed the women's gold.

While Shiv Nath (35 points) edged out teammate Naresh Damor (33 points), Syed Sharifuddin of Andhra Pradesh finished third with 20 points. Jharkahnd made a clean sweep in the women's section with Bansaralin Dhar (34 points) winning gold followed by Sakro Basra (29 points) and Jhanu Hansda (28 points). — UNI
