Swamijis attend all-religion meet

BANGALORE: Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Ramalinga Reddy has stressed on the need to follow the principles of one's religion to lead a peaceful life.

Mr. Reddy was speaking at the "Sarva Dharma Sammelana," organised to celebrate the 86th birth anniversary of Dharma Chakravarthy Acharya Shri Mahapragyaji by the Ahimsa Samvay Munch, Karnataka and Karnataka Jeevan Vigyan Academy here on Sunday.

The Minister said the people are deviating from the religious path, which is causing more violence and terrorism in the world.

Dr. Shivamurthy Shivacharya Mahaswamiji of Taralabalu Bruhan Mutt, Sirigere, said selfishness and greed are the causes of outbreak of violence.

The essence of every religion is compassion and this is what the 12th Century social reformer, Basaveshwara, had propagated through his teachings.

Compassion is the root of all religions, he said.

There is only one religion, but the traditions are many, the swamiji said.

He said one should act according to his conscience.

The practice of a religion should take one to the right path, he added.
