Back ESIC hikes medical reimbursement limit

THE governing body of the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) on Thursday decided to increase the ceiling on reimbursement of medical care to State Governments from the current Rs 750 to Rs 900 per insured person or family per annum with effect from April this year.

The increase in the ceiling would cost an additional Rs 105 crore to the corporation.

The corporation also has taken a decision to set up four super-specialty hospitals.

A sum of Rs 200 crore has been initially earmarked for this purpose. It has also been decided to issue an identity card for each insured person bearing a unique insurance number so as to enable the person avail himself of the various benefits under the scheme from anywhere in the country.
