ANANTAPUR: The documents unearthed in the Maoist dumps and the information gathered during the interrogation of the key dalam members has exposed the designs of violence planned by the Maoists in the district.

The Additional SP and OSD, G. Vijay Kumar, told newspersons here on Wednesday that they had planned a grenade attack on the Kanaganapalli police station, looting of a bank at Medapuram, attacking the railway police for arms and ammunition, robbing railway passengers, blasting Devarakonda microwave repeater station among others.

Besides, they had also planned to create unrest by killing a few politicians and former naxalites in the district, the OSD stated. The Maoist party in the district was suffering with internal bickering and caste frictions. He also revealed that several contractors and well-known persons in the society were providing arms, ammunition, explosives and vehicles to the Maoists and extending information on police stations to safeguard their concerns and interests.

The Maoists were luring persons facing family problems and others to join the party with a promise to solve them.

However, instead of solving their problems the new recruits were being involved in violence, Mr. Vijay Kumar said. They were threatening the cadres who were willing to join the mainstream.

During the last three months, two dalam commanders, two deputy commanders, eight platoon members, 15 dalam members, four minor dalam members (girls) and 26 militants surrendered to the police and were leading a peaceful life.

Most of them had already received Government benefits, he noted.
