12 cases of dengue reported in Hassan

HASSAN: Twelve persons in various parts of the district, including nine-month-old child, are reported to be suffering from dengue fever, according to the Department of Health and the District Surveillance unit.

Failure in maintaining hygiene in both rural and urban areas is said to be the reason for the outbreak.

Rajanasiriyur village of Belur taluk is the worst affected. Confirming the outbreak of the disease, the District Health Officer, B.S. Nagaraja Rao, said that the blood samples of five in Rajanasiriyur, three in Basavanahalli, and one in Banavara have been tested positive and reports of the three remaining cases are awaited.

The taluk health officers have been instructed to take precautionary measures with the help of local authorities.
