Back Defence pact
This is in reference to "Is Indo-Pak peace process really `irreversible'?" (Business Line, July 16). I believe that the pact, comprehensively assessed in the article, is tipped in US' favour and should never have been signed without a parliamentary debate. The pact violates the spirit of `non-alignment' that has served India so well since 1947. The deal links India not only to the US but also to a particular `regime' in the US that has a demonstrated set of interests that mock the best traditions that the Indian Government has sought to maintain over time. This cannot possibly serve India's best and long-term interests . The article has rightly exposed the pact for what it is: An alliance between two states, wherein the interests of one dominate those of the other. Tomasson F. Jannuzi Texas
