A new airline being promoted by Madurai-based textile major Paramount has been cleared for take-off in the Indian skies.

A high-powered committee of the Ministry of Civil Aviation on Monday granted a `no objection certificate' to Paramount Airways to begin regular flights.

The airline plans point-to-point flights between secondary towns and metros routes.

Official sources told Business Line that the airline has also been given permission to park its aircraft at the Coimbatore airport.

The airline is to be the launch customer for Embraer 170 and 175 aircraft in the country.

Paramount will offer an all-business class service on the first two Embraer 170 aircraft and first class and business class on the next three Embraer 175 aircraft.

A double-digit growth in the domestic aviation sector in the recent past has seen air fares head southwards.
