Back Flakt group plans global component hub in India

THE Switzerland-based industrial air movement major, FlaktWoods group, is planning to use India as its global component procurement hub. The company has also drawn up major growth strategies for its Rs 60-crore Indian arm, Flakt India Ltd (FIL).

Speaking to newspersons, Mr Carl Sverdrup, Senior Vice-President of FlaktWoods Asia, and Mr Patrick Pouliquen, Senior Vice-President (Global Operations), said that the group was working out strategies for procuring components for production hubs across the world from Indian suppliers. The supplies will be procured through FIL.

Apart from procuring components, the company also plans to convert Flakt India into a production hub for South-East Asia and West Asia.

To ramp up the business of its Indian operations, FlaktWoods is considering rolling out heating ventilation and air conditioning products in India.

Following its demerger with ABB, Flakt India is left only with the industrial and building application fan businesses.

FIL has two manufacturing facilities - in Kolkata and Chennai - and posted a turnover of Rs 60 crore during the 2004 calendar year. The company expects to grow at 20 per cent in 2005.
