Two killed in accidents
According to the police, a Haryana roadways bus knocked down a 50-year-old man, identified as Leela Ram, near Dhaula Kuan police post when he was crossing the road around 7-15 p.m. Leela Ram was taken to Safdarjung Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Following the incident, the driver of the bus escaped from the spot. In another accident, one Ramjivan Yadav, a resident of Rajokri, was killed when the scooty he was riding was hit from behind by a Blueline bus, plying on route No. 717, at Kapashera Chowk around 6-15 p.m. Ramjivan was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. A case has been registered at Kapashera police station and efforts were on to trace the driver of the bus.
Notice to Army
In a fresh application, Col Sehagal sought suspension of his sentence for three more months. A Division Bench comprising Justice B.C.Patel and Justice S.K.Kaul asked the Army to file a reply to the application on July 25. In the fresh application, Col Sehagal submitted that his wife was operated upon on July 19 for removal of her uterus; therefore, he needed more time to accompany her till she was discharged from the hospital.
Nigerian national held
According to the CBI, Opeyemi Camria James alias Mike alias Sam was arrested from his hideout at Malviya Nagar in South Delhi on Tuesday. Earlier, the CBI had arrested two persons, Vincent and Oluwadamilare, on July 9 when they were giving demonstration of cleaning defaced Indian currency notes of Rs.1,000 denomination and in the process trying to cheat gullible persons. The CBI reached the third accused with the help of mobile phone numbers provided by the two accused. James has been remanded to CBI custody till July 22.
PIL dismissed
A Division Bench of Chief Justice B C Patel and Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul dismissed the PIL as neither petitioner Richa Katara nor her lawyer was present when the matter was called out. The petitioner had alleged that the theme of the film, released on June 24, revolved round a ghost played by Shah Rukh Khan from the beginning to the end and that it would have an adverse effect on the minds of teenagers and promote superstition.
