Tenant verification drive intensified

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: In the wake of disclosures that terrorists involved in the cinema hall bomb blasts and Ayodhya attack had set up base in rented accommodations across the Capital, the Delhi police on Wednesday once again intensified the tenant verification drive.

According to an official release, punitive action will be taken against property dealers and landlords who fail to inform the police about their tenants. Action will also be taken against Station House Officers if their record books for the past year are not found updated.

The Uttar Pradesh police had recently disclosed that the militants involved in the attack on the Ramjanmbhoomi complex in Ayodhya had been living in the Capital for a year and had planned the entire operation here.

This apart, investigations into the twin blasts in cinema halls on May 22 had revealed that the Babbar Khalsa militants had also been staying in Delhi and had stocked up explosives and other ammunition in rented accommodations.

The police have intensified the drive in the Capital particularly in view of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
