Release of water by Haryana affects water treatment plants

NEW DELHI: Heavy release of water from the Tajewala waterworks in Haryana has not only led to flooding of the Yamuna but also affected at least two water treatment plants in the Capital. As a result, supply to several areas is likely to remain affected on Thursday.

According to Delhi Jal Board officials, due to increase in water discharge in the river from Haryana, the level in the Western Yamuna Canal was fluctuating, affecting supply of raw water to Haiderpur and Nangloi treatment plants.

The water utility officials have informed that supply would remain affected in North West, West, North, South and Outer Delhi areas on Thursday. They have asked people to store enough water and in case of an emergency, they can call the local DJB offices for water tankers.

Meanwhile, the level of Yamuna in the Capital has started receding and it is expected that by Thursday evening it would touch the 204 metre mark against the danger level of 204.83 metres. On Wednesday evening the level stood at 204.62 metres.
