ANANTAPUR: The State Government has directed the Zilla Parishads recently to list out the department-wise Government properties under its purview and encroachments on them. It assumes significance after the recent exposure that more than one-thirds of the land belonging to the ZP High School at Rapthadu was encroached by private persons as well as other Government departments. Of the 9.01 acres land of the school, 1.09 acres was encroached by private persons and another 2.08 acres by other Government departments. Mandal Agriculture Office, BC welfare hostel, public health centre, MPDO's office, MRO's office and police station were constructed in 2.08 acres land of the school, without taking the permission of the concerned authorities. According to the CEO, K. Sripathi Rao, the Government has also asked for a list of encroachments removed during 1999, list of encroachments where action was in progress. He stated that 37 high schools in 21 mandals were suffering due to lack of buildings. The district Collector has recently released Rs. 2 crores for taking up repairs to existing buildings, keeping in view the rainy season. The Godavari Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited will hand over the first instalment of its merit scholarships to 100 students selected from 50 ZP high schools.
