THE Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the due date for filing of returns of income to August 31 in the case of income-tax assessees in Maharashtra.

A decision to extend the due date (July 31) was taken today by the CBDT after considering the disruption caused by heavy rains in Maharashtra, an official release said.

The CBDT had, on July 7, extended the due date for filing of income-tax returns to August 31 in respect of assessees in Gujarat on account of the serious flood situation in that State.
