BELGAUM: The Indian Air Force stationed at Sambra, 10 km from here, has been alerted about the situation in villages that are flooded owing to heavy rainfall since the past week. The IAF has been requested to provide food and medicines in case of an emergency. S.M. Sonnad, Headquarters Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner, who is supervising the relief measures and monitoring the situation in the district, told The Hindu here on Sunday that the district administration is prepared to meet any eventuality arising out the incessant rainfall. He said relief measures in inundated villages in Athani taluk are in full swing. He said the Krishna has been in spate since last two days. However, there is no official information from Maharashtra about any releases from Koyana dam into the Krishna. The swelling of the river is also due to flow from the Panchaganga, which joins Krishna at the border in Athani taluk.
